About

What is Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-thon? For 24 hours, we read books, post to our blogs about our reading, and visit other readers’ blogs. We also participate in mini-challenges throughout the day. It happens twice a year, in April and in October.

It was created by the beloved Dewey (her blog has since been taken down, so the link won’t work). The first one was held in October 2007. Dewey died in late 2008. We’re still saddened by her absence, but the show must go on. The read-a-thon was renamed to honor its founder in 2009.

Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-thon is hosted by Trish and Shesten, with help from volunteers.

More on the read-a-thon’s history.

Hi There Nymeth and Hannah and Trish,

I don’t have a blog , so I’m not sure what to put in the URL box to sign up for Dewey’s 24-hour Read-a-thon. But I would like to be a part of it this year and my sister Erin, who lives in Germany, is going to do it, too.

    How do we sign up?

Thanks – I’m glad you’re continuing this in Dewey’s honor.

    Beth G.

    Beth,

If I was in your situation, I think I would just use the URL of this blog — http://24hourreadathon.com — if you don’t have one and you need one to sign up. Not a big deal. You can participate through the comments here.

Dewey’s 24-hour Read-a-thon sound very interesting. I linked your website to my site. Hope you don’t mind. Just thought someone visiting my site might want to take part in Dewey’s 24-hour Read-a-Thon.

I’ve never been involved with this but i would love to be. Only thing is do you have to read for the full 24 hrs or can you do like an hour or 2 here and there? If i didn’t have two kids i’d probably try for the 24 hrs but i know my kids won’t let me. Oh and I don’t have a blog unless you count librarythings.com

    Hello.
So, me and my friends wanted to participate in the read-a-thon, but none of us has a blog! (sad, yeah)
We wanted to know if we can create some kind of a blog to use only to post things during the read a thon, one for the three of us. (or would each of us have to create one?)

    Thanks,
    Mika, K and Mari.
