October 2009 Read-a-thon Sign-up post

deweys-readathonbuttonIt’s almost here! The October 2009 Read-a-thon is only a little over 3 weeks away, so now is the time for those interested in participating to officially sign up.

The  Read-a-thon will start: October 24th  at 5am Pacific (1pm GMT). You can click over to the start times page to check the starting time in your timezone. Remember that if it’s more convenient to you, you could  start either earlier or later, as well as participate for only part of the 24 hours. Very few people make it through the entire 24-hour period without sleeping, so don’t let that discourage you! Sleep is definitely allowed.

For more information on the Read-a-thon, you can read our FAQ. If you have a question that isn’t answered there, you can leave us a comment or e-mail DeweyReadathon at gmail. We’ll try to get back to you as soon as possible!

In the next day or two, we’re going to put up two Google Forms that those interested in hosting mini-challenges can fill in. If you’re new to the Read-a-thon and are wondering what these mini-challenge things are, please check our FAQ!

Also, if you’d like to donate a prize, please e-mail us at DeweyReadathon at gmail. It’d be very much appreciated! Here’s a list of the prizes donated for the April 2009 Read-a-thon in case you’re wondering what to donate.

Another thing you can do: Grab a button from the FAQ page, display it proudly, and help us spread the word.

To sign up to be a Reader, please use the Mr Linky below:

To sign up to be a Cheerleader (aka one of the not-so-secret superheroes of the read-a-thon) please fill the Mr. Linky below:

Remember that you’re more than welcome to be both. Each role is carefully explained in the FAQ. Let us know if you have any further questions!

  1. I’m someone else who can’t cope with putting my name in the right box – I’ve signed up as a reader instead of a cheerleader! Hope someone can delete me from that list please :)

  2. I originally left a message asking if I could do it a day later. I can now do it on the Saturday. However, I will probably be 30 mins late (it starts at 1pm on Saturday which is the exact time I finish my drama event). So I’ve allowed myself 30 mins to get home and post that I’m starting. I’ve signed up as a reader =D

  3. Unfortunately, I can only read a couple hours in the beginning because of how busy I’m going to be that day, but I’ll try! And sorry for the double link, because I sort of forgot to put my blog name next to my name.

  4. I think I signed up as a cheerleader by mistake; I do not know what it entails, but I will definitely find out and do my share… I then signed up as a reader (as a correction)

First timer and hope to participate well :) at least attempt to participate well! :)

  5. So, I’ll be busy most of the day on sat so I was thinking of being a cheerleader, but even though I read the FAQ I still am a little confused on one thing. If I were to host a mini-challenge, would I have to supply the prize, or would I just send the winner down to the prize list to chose a prize, or would I chose their prize from the list for them or what? Thanks for the help.

  6. I am so sorry!! I totally just linky’d in the wrong one!!! I have already signed up and totally meant to link to my reading post. Please feel free to delete that last one (#332)!! Sorry again!!

  7. Just Someome: We can delete you from the list of cheerleaders if you want to, though I hope you’ll stick around and realize just how fun cheerleading is ;)

Mandy: We would provide a prize from the list if the host couldn’t offer one themselves, but unfortunately all spots for mini-challenges have already been filled. There’s always next April, though!

    Tif, done!

  8. Ok, so I started signing up in the reader section but it noted my name in the cheerleader section. How did that happen? Not that being a cheerleader wouldn’t be great but I don’t think I could do both, not this year anyway. Sorry for the trouble. Can’t wait to start reading.

  9. I know I’m late for signing up to be a cheerleader, but I think I can find 4 hours to be a cheerleader! I so want to go visit different blogs and cheer people on with reading for 24 hours! So if I’m not too late…..

  10. Yep. Totally caving to peer pressure. I’ll blame Ms Alex for my eye strain and stack of finished books come Sunday. ;)

(Btw, I’m going 00:00 PST, Oct. 24th to 00:00, Oct. 25th because it just works better that way. I need to be awake-ish Sunday.)

  11. Hi! :) I’m Libby – I participated last time & had a blast!

I am signing up late – sorry! I mentioned this to a friend earlier & she may participate with her daughters! I also have a few other friends I want to speak with tonight!

Looking forward to this & I look forward to talking to y’all! :) I’m @ailish79 on Twitter – please add me if you would like. I’m always rambling about books/looking fiornew books! :)

  12. OMG!! i had never heard of this before!! Thank goodness for facebook and I found out in time. I’m a Dewey’s Read-a-thon virgin! Although, not in time to have not scheduled a dinner party for Sunday. Oh well, we all make sacrifices. Wait until my husband finds out! :) If he wants anything done, he may have to listen to an ebook! Oh crap! And I had just convinced him to take me out to dinner tomorrow night!

  13. Wonderful goods from you, man. I’ve understand your stuff previous to and you’re just too wonderful.
I really like what you’ve acquired here, certainly like what you’re stating and the way
in which you say it. You make it enjoyable and you
still take care of to keep it sensible. I can not
wait to read much more from you. This is really a great website.
