Whew! Do you still have a Read-a-Thon hangover? We might!

To wrap things up, I just want to fill you in on a few stinkin’ awesome stats:

We had 494 people sign-up to participate this April.

242 of those participated in the Introduction Meme.

122 of those participated in the End of Event Meme.

588 books were entered into the Books Read Database (there’s still time to add yours)

We had 31 cheerleaders sign-up.

We had 21 Mini-Challenge hosts.

We had readers participate via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, their blogs, and everywhere else imaginable!

Over 1,100 Instagram photos were uploaded and tagged!

We TRENDED on Twitter on and off for all 24 hours!

We had at least 186 prizes donated to us… more if you count those wonderful Mini-Challenge hosts. Thanks to Vasilly for helping with this!

We had 4 cohosts (Sheila, Deb, Courtney, Kate) in addition to our hosts/organizers (Heather and Andi, waving).

Publishers, authors, bloggers, and bookstore who donated prizes this time, thank you from the bottom of our hearts! I am sad to say that A Real Bookstore, such a generous donor to this Read-a-Thon, closed their doors for good on Thursday, April 25th. It’s such a sad thing for those of us in the Dallas area to lose such a wonderful part of the community.

Lastly, we really want to thank all 494 of you who signed-up to participate! This was an especially spirited Read-a-Thon full of genuine excitement and community warmth. Even if you only got to read for a few hours… or a few minutes, you were still a part of something AMAZING!

We’ll do it all over again in October, and we have a major goal in mind…

We want at least 500 readers!

I think we can do it…don’t you?

Without further ado, go ahead and put it on your calendar. The Fall 2013 Read-a-Thon will take place on October 12th! Be there or be square! Put in for your days off and book that babysitter. It’s ON!

We’d also love it if you could indicate your volunteer interests for October in the form below. We’ll be in touch!!!

This is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook and you have made it to the final hour (as well as the final post). Whether you have done 24 hours or just 1 hour, you have done amazing! I have had so much fun these last three hours chatting with you all and reading your posts and your tweets. You have all made this another great event and I eagerly look forward to the event in October.

Random Fact of the Hour:

The Library of Congress (Washington DC) contains 28 million books and has more than 500 miles of shelving. It would take you eight hours to pass every single book, if you were driving in a car at 70 mph. I’d hate to be the one in charge of dusting.

End of event meme–

A Readathon tradition! In your final Readathon post, answer these questions and then link to it with the Mr. Linky, below.

Which hour was most daunting for you?

Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?

Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?

What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?

How many books did you read?

What were the names of the books you read?

Which book did you enjoy most?

Which did you enjoy least?

If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?

How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?

It has been a pleasure reading and tweeting with you all. Good luck on this last hour and get plenty of rest today.

I hope you enjoyed the video. I know that it absolutely brought me to tears the first time I saw it. Anyway, this is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook and I will be your cohost for the rest of the readathon! Are you excited??? I know I am! Let me introduce myself to you really quick. I am a rather odd mix of hobbies. I love German Soccer (specifically Bayern Munich) with a passion and will often force myself out of bed at 6:30 on a Saturday morning to watch their games. I am a cross stitching addict and currently have over 50 patterns started. I love tv and watch way too much of it (curse you Hulu). I have two part time jobs (math tutor and a subpoena records copier). I am also a cheese addict. I love cheese. Right now I am eating Brie and Danish Fontina. I also have Gouda and Babybel in the fridge calling to me (as well as the normal cheddar and string cheese and mozerella cheese). During readathons, I allow myself to splurge and buy some of the more expensive cheeses as a treat. Now that you know a little bit more about me, I would love to know a little more about you! So please leave a comment and tell me some of your quirks and what makes you unique.

A big shout out to our cheerleaders!!! You guys have been fantastic! Next time we should have cheerleaders for our cheerleaders! But in all seriousness, thanks so much for cheering all of us readers on and cohosts on. You give us the strength to push past the weariness and keep reading! Goodness knows how much a “new comment” notice brightens up a persons day.

Random Fact of the Hour:

Who’s the bestselling commercial fiction author of all time? Not Meyer. Not Rowling. Not even King. No, the bestselling author of all time is Agatha Christie. Since 1920 her books have sold over a billion copies in the English language, and another billion in more than 45 other languages. She is outsold only by the Bible and William Shakespeare.

Now go pick up a book and remember to have fun. You can sleep when you’re dead, so have fun while you can!!!

Hey guys! Andi again! I’m up! You up? I might have the help of a Mountain Dew Code Red, but I’m still here! And some popcorn and Spicy Nacho Doritos. You should be SO stinkin’ proud of yourselves for making it this far into the Read-a-Thon!!!! Many have started to bow out, so let’s step up our cheer game even more to keep this thing going through Hour 24!!!

Are you ready for some late-night cheesy humor? The kind that makes you giggle for minutes on end. Kinda delirious-like?

That would be “My Little Poe-ny.” HAAAAAA!!! And I shamelessly stole this from Jennifer at The Relentless Reader. Her Facebook page is great for fun images like this one.

One more? Ok, you twisted my arm…

I hope you have a delicious bowl of something awesome. And maybe an IV drip of caffeine. Cheers to another hour!

Well…it’s my last hour with you friends. I’ve noticed some readers starting to hit a bit of a wall on Twitter so in the interest of waking and cheering a few of you up…I have pulled out something for my Janeites and Downton Abbey fans. That’s right I have brought out the big guns. I’m going out with a bang! I know at least one of my readathon readers out there is holding an Austen tome and I will be later in the readathon I am sure. So I hope the video above will give a chuckle and help you make it on to hour 17 when your lovely host Andi will be taking over. I’ve so enjoyed spending the last few hours with you and I wish you all happy reading and the very best readathon yet!
