Hour 12: Mid-Event Meme

Aw, this is my final hour as cohost. :( I’m terribly upset, so I’ve decided to post this MST3K video to cheer myself– and, by extension, you guys– up.

More important than Blast Hardcheese, you’re now officially halfway through the readathon! Congratulations, everyone! You’re doing SO awesome, and I know you can keep up the momentum. Read lots, take breaks, drink water and dance often!

Mini-Challenges
Yay, I get to host the mid-event survey! Post your answers at your blog and then come back here to leave your link.

Mid-Event Survey:
1. What are you reading right now?
2. How many books have you read so far?
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?
4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day?
5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year?
9. Are you getting tired yet?
10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered?

Sign the linky below with a link to your post with your answers. There will be 4 winners: 1st gets 1 prize packs of books, along with chocolate coins, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th get three books of their choice. This is only open until the beginning of Hour 14.

Winners Announced
Aw, this is my last turn to pick winners for prizes. I’m sad about that but very happy to say that two random readathon participants win a prize from the prize list! And those participants are: Yukino and Staci! Yay! Congratulations! Pick a prize from the prize list and email your choice to Vasilly at 1330vblog at gmail.

Don’t forget about the Book Club Recommendations mini-challenge, where Shel is a winner of a fabulous prize of her own! Congratulations! Please visit the post to claim your prize!

Still Ongoing
Recreate the Cover
Bookish Crossword Puzzle

And finally, don’t forget to add your completed books to the master list!

It was so lovely to be your cohost. Thank you all so much for the comments and support! I had a lot of fun. :D I’ll still be around on Twitter, Facebook, and email for until the start of Hour 13, where I’ll pass the cohosting baton off to Melissa!

Exclamation marks everywhere!!

@Adam: No problem! I think I can fix it.

  16. Mike the Librarianon 09 Apr 2011 at 3:18 pm 16

As usual, having lots of fun and not worrying overmuch about my stats. What happened to the cheerleaders, though?

  17. Mary Hon 09 Apr 2011 at 3:18 pm 17

Well I’m part of the Mineola Library’s Reading with Chessie team.
I’m still trying to read Sean Griswold’s Head. I have yet to finish it but I am 12 pages into it. No, I’m not a slow reader, I’m also at work on the front desk at our library so I’m looking forward to finishing my book! Had to get someone to tote my children hither thither and yon for the day. Lots of interruptions but just smiled and rolled on. Next year, we need to check the time so we can start when everyone else does. Next year, I would take the day off work — not going to happen but would be easier to read. I am tired!! Tips? Just keep reading, just keep reading!!
    Having fun!

  22. M (@notarevolution)on 09 Apr 2011 at 3:23 pm 22

I wonder… is it okay to fill out my survey here, in the comments? I’m participating via Twitter and I don’t think my answers will fit into 140 characters!

    1. What are you reading right now?
    Stoner by John Williams

    2. How many books have you read so far?
Just one – Touch by Adania Shibli

    3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?
I’m looking forward to finishing Stoner. I have about 97 pages left.

    4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day?
Not really. It was a miracle I had this weekend free, though. So I took advantage of it and let everyone know I would spend most of the day reading.

    5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
Just a few. One was self-imposed – I went running – because I didn’t want the Readathon to interfere with my health goals. And I’m glad I worked out because I feel much more awake than I did at this point during the last Readathon. There were a few interruptions from my family, who doesn’t really understand why anyone would want to read for 24 hours, but they were quick and painless. :)

    6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
I’m so awake! It’s early evening here – at this point, last Readathon, I’d already taken a nap and then fell asleep pretty early. But this time around, I’m determined to stay up for a good portion of the remaining hours and I think I will be able to do it (that said, now I feel a yawn coming on! must resist!).

    7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
I’m cheerleading for the first time and I’m not sure how well I’m doing at it. Maybe next year/time, we could have a post about sample cheers from experienced cheerleaders? Just so those of us who are newbies have some ideas of what to start with, if we’re unsure.

    8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year?
Hmm, I’ll have to think about this one, but nothing comes to mind at the moment.

    9. Are you getting tired yet?
    No! *must* *not* *yawn*

    10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered?
Read in a variety of settings. Moving around, change of scenery, etc. may help motivate yourself to do more reading.

Also, take a break if you need to or feel like it – and don’t feel guilty! Don’t stress about # of pages, books, minutes read, etc. This is all about the love of reading, remember? :)

  23. Danieon 09 Apr 2011 at 3:23 pm 23

    Hooray for being half-way there!!!
