Hour 24

You’re sooooooooooooo close! YOU CAN DO IT! Prop those eyes open with some toothpicks or something! Warning: There are a few curse words in this clip. I usually try to keep it squeaky clean, but I counted an “h” word, an “s” word, and one muttered “f” word (but I only caught it on the second time through because I was looking for swear words). If those are going to offend you, don’t watch. If they’re not, this will convince you to stay awake through the next hour. If you don’t, I’m sicking the aliens on you personally…

It’s that time… End of Event Meme Time. Fill out these and link up to the direct post when you’re done:

1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
5. How many books did you read?
6. What were the names of the books you read?
7. Which book did you enjoy most?
8. Which did you enjoy least?
9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?

It’s been fun hanging out with you guys! I hope you’ll join us again in April!

Hour 18

BOO! Did I scare you? Ah, I’m gonna have to get trixier if I wanna do that, right?

Halloween’s just around the corner. See if you can help me brainstorm some great books that would be terrifying to read on Halloween! I’ll select a random commenter on this post for a prize. I’m primarily a YA blogger, so I’m going to stick to what I know and suggest Nevermore by Kelly Creagh and The Devouring by Simon Holt, which starts out like this:

When dark creeps in and eats the light,
Bury your fears on sorry night,
For in the winter’s darkest hours,
Comes the feasting of the vours,
No one can see it the life they stole,
Your body’s here but not your soul.

(Don’t worry, sorry night isn’t tonight so you’re good to be spooked… tonight anyway)

Keep up the great work y’all. You CAN make it all 24 hours, I know you can!!!!

Hour 16

Hey guys! Are you feeling the burn? ARE YOU? Your eyes from not blinking? Your throat from reading aloud? Your ears from listening?

You can totally make it to Hour 24. I believe in you guys. Something that helps me focus and get a little energy back when I start to get tired is a fun non-lyrical music mix. I use a lot of these for my workouts and honestly when I’m writing for my class or trying to read someone’s story for class. Click here to listen to my favorite i’m-so-tired-but-i-have-to-stay-awake-and-focused Pandora station. You might be surprised!

Head over to The Brain Lair and YA Enthusiast this hour to cheer them on and leave a comment to be entered to win a prize!

(And hint:  You may want to update your status posts… I’ll be on the prowl for a random reader still reading soon!)

The teenage girl had watched the man for several weeks now. He had seemed a strange man, but all he really did was sit on a bench for a couple of hours every day. Today she decided that she’d approach him and ask the one question that was bothering her.
“Um, sir, who are you?”
The man looked at her with a straight face and said, “I’m a vampire.”
There was silence.
“Then if you’re a vampire, then why aren’t you sparkling in the sunlight?”
“Read Dracula, kid. Dracula walked in the sun and didn’t sparkle.”

Birgit – email me, ’cause you didn’t leave your email addy!  We’ll get you hooked up with your prize.
