Sign-up to be a cheerleader for the April 10 Read-a-Thon

Wanted: Cheerleaders to offer encouragement, love and support to all of the readers during the read-a-thon. The ideal candidate must have a willingness to leave comments (cheesy or otherwise), provide virtual doses of caffeine (or virtual hugs…whatever is needed), and tell readers that they are doing a fabulous job. Cheerleaders will work from the comfort of their own home, with or without pom-poms. Cheerleaders can commit to a variety of cheering levels…there is no requirement to stay up all night! You can pledge to cheer for 1 hour, 4 hours, 8 hours or 12 (or more!) hours (please note: your cheering time does not have to be consecutive…you can spread it out over the course of the day). Prior experience NOT required…all that is needed is a computer and a positive attitude.

If you are interested in joining our peppy team, please fill out the Google form below…after which, you can proudly display this (or one from prior years) cheerleading badge on your blog:

After you sign up, you will then be assigned to a cheer squad and your head cheerleader will be in touch with the details of who all you will be cheering for and a link to a top secret cheerleading blog that will contain lots of cheerleading info. Okay, not really on the top secret part, but we’re still working on the blog. If you have any questions before you sign up, please email Jill: fizzybeverage at gmail dot com.

Sign up for the April 10, 2010 Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-thon!

I can’t believe the read-a-thon is only two weeks away! Are you as excited as I am?! Since the read-a-thon is getting close, now’s the time to officially sign up if you plan on participating.

The  Read-a-thon will start: April 10th  at 5am Pacific (1pm GMT). You can click over to the start times page to check the starting time in your timezone. Remember that if it’s more convenient to you, you could  start either earlier or later, as well as participate for only part of the 24 hours. Very few people make it through the entire 24-hour period without sleeping, so don’t let that discourage you! Sleep is definitely allowed.

For more information on the Read-a-thon, you can read our FAQ. If you have a question that isn’t answered there, you can leave us a comment or e-mail DeweyReadathon at gmail. We’ll try to get back to you as soon as possible!

Sign ups for being a cheerleader will be posted in a few days.

We’ve already posted a Google Form for those interested in hosting a mini-challenge. If you’re new to the read-a-thon and are wondering what these mini-challenge things are, please check our FAQ!

Also, if you’d like to donate a prize, please e-mail us at DeweyReadathon at gmail. It’d be very much appreciated! Here’s a list of the prizes donated for the October 2009 Read-a-thon in case you’re wondering what to donate.

Another thing you can do: Grab a button from the FAQ page, display it proudly, and help us spread the word.

Mini-Challenge Host Sign Ups for April 10 Readathon

Woo Hoo!  It is time to sign up if you are interested in being a Mini-Challenge Host for the April 10th Readathon.

What we are looking for is unique and fun mini challenges to run throughout the readathon.  If you want to enter to host a mini challenge but are struggling to come up with ideas, be sure to look through the posts on this site from last October (most posts reference a mini-challenge).  There are many wonderful ideas here that should help stimulate your own ideas.

While we encourage you to fill out the form and enter for a challenge spot, note that we are looking for 30 mini challenges at the most.  The Mini Challenge Coordinator Team will look at and review all the ideas and then notify those who have been selected on or before April 3rd.

Please note that if your challenge is accepted you do need to be prepared to post during the Readathon at the time that is appointed to you (the form has time slots you can choose from).

OOH! OOH!  I have a question!!!   Please check out the Readathon FAQ’s page if you have any questions.

The mini challenges are a fun part of the Readathon and we thank you for all ideas submitted.  :)

Volunteers Needed!

We’re gearing up for the read-a-thon coming up on April 10, 2010, and I need some volunteers! Here are some of the jobs I’ve got slots for:

  • Co-hosts
  • Mini-challenge team (organizing, posting on the readathon blog looking for volunteers, assigning people times, etc)
  • Cheerleader team (recruit, organize, and be available for questions)
  • Soliciting Prizes team (solicit prizes, solicit angels, and put prizes in list on Prize page)
  • Prize monitors/email monitors during the readathon
  • Prize distribution team

Any one of these jobs can take 10-20 hours of your time. Some jobs may take less time, but it’s definitely a time commitment.

If you’re interested in volunteering, please email me at deweyreadathon at gmail and let me know which job you’re interested in. THANK YOU!!

Also, raise your hand if you CAN’T WAIT for the read-a-thon.
